cover versions are a funny thing…sometimes they work and other times they just clog up the airwaves and make us angry and frustrated…sometimes they even surpass the original – not often I agree with that but of course it’s always open to debate…usually a heated one that ends in a fight.

there are also some artists that shouldn’t be covered – it’s wrong and theres no point wasting anyones time…

Sly and The Family Stone should be one of those artists in my little book…but back in 1982 Paul Haig released what I think is one of the great cover versions of our time…yes, the same Paul Haig who was in Josef K and released a bunch of great singles in the early 1980’s on Postcard and have since been re-issued all over the place – a truly influential band and a great singer to boot. After Josef K called it a day Paul carried on making great records including this one…
